The Agus 7 HEPP stands as the final power generating facility in the Agus River system to undergo rehabilitation, concluding a series of upgrades for the decades-old facilities. Situated 800 kilometers downstream from the Agus 6 HEPP and a mere seven kilometers away from Iligan City, it was strategically constructed near the outlet of the Agus River, which flows into the Iligan Bay. The construction of the main powerhouse, dam structures, and diversion tunnel commenced in 1979, with commercial operation commencing in 1983. To ensure the safety and reliability of the Agus 7 HEPP, the National Power Corporation (NPC) Mindanao Generation engaged the Engineering and Development Corporation of the Philippines (EDCOP) to undertake the 3rd Party Dam Safety Review. This review marks the first comprehensive assessment of the dam’s safety for the Agus 7 HEPP.
The primary objective of the review is to conduct a thorough evaluation of the dam’s safety, focusing on the concrete structure and its associated non-power components. The scope of work encompasses hydrological analysis, spillway capacity assessment, dam break assessment, dam stability, seismic hazard assessment, and dam safety inspection of all non-power components.
