The study covers three (3) principal river basins in the Philippines namely Balatukan, Iponan, and Mapangi River Basins. Balatukan is located in the province of Misamis Oriental (Region X) and Iponan is located in the provinces of Misamis Oriental and Bukidnon (Region X). On the hand, Mapangi is composed of Mapangi, Usugan, and Salug Rivers in Misamis Occidental (Regions IX and X), and Dipolo River in Zamboanga del Sur (Region IX). Balatukan, Iponan, and Mapangi River Basins are included in the 120 Prioritized River Basins under the Study on the Nationwide Flood Risk Assessment and the Flood Mitigation Plan for the Selected Areas in the Republic of the Philippines conducted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in March 2008.
