LRT LINE 1 CAPACITY EXTENSION PROJECT PHASE II (PACKAGE A)
(In association with PCI, Japan Railway, FILDRAVO, DEMCOR, TCGI, JF CANCIO)
The project involves the Phase II capacity expansion for the existing LRT Line 1. It is a 15.4 km elevated line with 18 stations running north to south along the Taft-Rizal corridor from Baclaran in Pasay City to Monumento in Kaloocan City in Metro Manila.
The expanded capacity Line 1 was deemed adequate for a number of years of stand-alone operations. However, the on-going construction projects for Manila Lines 2 and 3 necessitate an urgent need for further capacity expansion as required to support operations of an integrated 3-line network. The Phase II expansion will increase the passenger carrying capacity of Line 1 to 40,000 passengers per hour per direction ( pphpd ).
